Ciudad (pob., 2000: 205.727 hab.), en el nordeste del estado de Indiana en EE.UU. Antiguamente fue la ciudad principal de los indios miami y lugar de intercambio comercial francés a fines del s.

XVII. Fue capturada por los ingleses (1760) y luego por los indios bajo el mando del jefe Pontiac (1763). Una empalizada de troncos construida en 1794 por el gral. Anthony Wayne le dio su nombre a la ciudad. El crecimiento industrial de la ciudad comenzó con la construcción del canal Wabash and Erie en la década de 1830. En la actualidad se fabrica allí una amplia gama de maquinaria, como automóviles y equipos eléctricos. Es sede de instituciones educacionales como el Seminario Teológico Concordia (1846) y el St. Francis College (1890). Aquí se encuentra sepultado Johnny Appleseed, pionero en la plantación de huertos.
